i have. a lot of big complicated thoughts about how people tend to treat depression as like. as if it’s nothing. like it’s the most basic easiest mental illness ever. why do we do this. depression kills people. constantly. people will throw around “depression and anxiety” and say they’re totally normalized nonstigmatized disorders and then you realize they only think mild versions of these disorders exist. i have a laundry list of mental disorders and the only one that’s ever actually put my life at risk was depression. if you throw around depression as if it’s the mildest least harmful mental illness ever have you considered shutting the fuck up.
actually the fact tumblr glitches and treats you like a new user when youre not is really funny. could you imagine taking a bite out of a fucking big mac or whatever and a whole crowd of people jump out and start cheering and congratulating you on learning how to eat
people from the us trying to think up analogy: “this is just like if mcdonald hamburger”
never disrespect my mcdonald hamburger ever again do you know how many rock and roll disk i had to sacrifice to get this thing
HOW ARE YOU TRAUMATIZED OVER A FANFICTION WHAT…..
also um. if there was warning and you still continued to read it thats your fault, not the authors. dont play victim pls that shits so fucking annyoing
So here’s a little story time for you!
I am triggered by zombies. I will freak out and it can cause a panic attack if I am exposed too long, or there’s someone playing one irl in front of me.
This is a very uncommon trigger, so not a lot of media forewarns for it, meaning I rely a lot on friends when it comes to horror movies or darker games to make sure that I’m not going to be pushed past my limits in engaging in media.
If I were to, however, go and watch The Walking Dead, and have a panic attack? That would be my fault. And most people would (RIGHTFULLY!) consider that a very stupid thing for me to have done, because I know what my trigger is.
That isn’t victim blaming. They’re not saying I’m in the wrong for HAVING the trigger, nor are they saying I’m in the wrong for having a reaction to my trigger.
They’re saying that I, knowing full well what The Walking Dead is and what it is about, went and looked up how to watch it, put it on, and sat down to watch it, and that deliberately exposing myself to my trigger like that was not a good move, a smart move, or a move made in my own best interest.
Your triggers are valid and your reaction to those triggers is valid. However if you are very deliberately seeking out and exposing yourself to things that trigger you (discounting doing so with a professional as part of exposure therapy) then you are not acting in your own best interest and people are allowed to call you on that!
Former Disney CEO Michael Eisner: doctor, I have depression
Kevin “Defunctland” Perjurer: go see the great clown Michael Eisner. He sucks shit and he knows it. He’s so bad at running a theme park he makes me roar with laughter. He cries at board meetings because he knows he’s nothing.
Former Disney CEO Michael Eisner: but doctor–
Kevin “Defunctland” Perjurer: I know who you are
